Antique Seals
Cast Iron Embossing Seals have a long history that dates back to the Babylonian Empire of around 3200 BC. They were universally adopted for the purpose of authenticating documents in England during the 12th Century. More recently, you probably have seen these Seal Presses sitting on a lawyers desk, in a courthouse, post office or County Clerks office. Due to electric seals and ink stamps these cast iron seal presses are becoming part of America's past and have been recycled for scrap metal.
Due to their scarcity they have become true relics and collectors items. Not only are these beautiful items decoratively attractive, but they are historically significant. They have a provenance which represents a specific time in history, a particular government agency or company in which the seal was used. The image on the die represents a point in time and is historically significant. Even the Seal Press Manufacturer be it Platt Evans Jr. CF Hall of Cincinnati are historically interesting. These items are now being fully appreciated by the collecting world as being a part of our history and heritage.
