RIBtype interlocking ribbed-rubber type provides the ultimate in printing flexibility. It prints date codes on food packaging, model numbers on manufactured products and bold messages on corrugated boxes.
RIBtype can be used in hand stamps, conveyor-line printers and reciprocating coders. Ribs on the back the type interlock with ribs on the marking device for fast message changes.
Type assortments and date sets are economical and allow users to compose their own messages. Custom RIBtype makes the finest imprints.
Type Sets
Assortment of RIBtype characters are available in letter/figure “T” sets and in numbers-only “F” sets. The 4 standard RIBtype typestyles are A, B, U and G. Typestyle “A” is open face, clean-printing typestyle. Typestyle “B” is a condensed version for use when space is limited. Bold face styles include “U” and the more condensed style “G”.
To Order select the desired typestyle and size form the chart in the Category Standard RIBtype Typestyles and Sizes. Add the prefix “T” for a letter/number set. Add the prefix “F” for a figures-only set. Value Pack figure sets have 3 times the number of figures in one box for added cost savings. Type is normally supplied in natural rubber, but it is also available in black Buna, PVC or Silicone for special applications. Other type styles and sizes are available.
Individual RIBtype Characters or Sorts
Also known as “sorts”, individual RIBtype characters can be ordered when only a few characters are required. When uncertain of the size or typestyle, it is best to supply an unused character with a distinct top and bottom (A, P, R, 4, 5).
Logotype or Logos
A logotype –or “logo” – is a single line of characters molded in one piece (a word, trademark or code). Logos provide superior quality impressions over combinations of single characters because of uniform typeface wear. They also save time and minimize costly spelling and coding errors. Orders should indicate character size, style and maximum length, if space is limited.
Multi-Line Mats or Mats
Multi-line mats are two or more lines of of copy on a single piece. This is the best choice when large blocks of copy do not change. Special designs, trademarks, and typestyles can be combined
When only part of the copy changes, cut-outs or notches can be made I the mat to allow for quick modifications using RIBtype logos or individual characters. Orders should specify overall size, typestyles and sizes desired. “Proofs” can be provided before mats are cast. Large RIBtype mats can be pressed into place more easily if the ribs are dampened or sprayed lightly with water. If overdone, mats may move when printing.
Mats with Cutouts and Notches
Mats with cutouts and/or notches work very well when a part of your impression is permanent and only a portion needs to be interchangebale. A notch or cutout exposes the ribs for holding the changeable text.
Custom Fonts
Most type styles can be made into RIBtype with the exception of script fonts. Custom type styles, sizes, and/or font contents can be made to your specific needs. Discounted pricing when ordering in quantity.
Custom Moulding
Used for Typestyles, trademarks and special designs. Custom RIBtype products can be manufactured in a variety of typestyles in addition to the standard four styles shown on the Typestyles and Sizes chat. Special designs or trademarks also can be easily incorporated into logos or multi-line mats. Form optimum results, it is best to supply black and white, camera ready art.
Deep Relief Type
Deep relief type is thicker overall, and the characters are deeper from the face to the base of the character. It is often used to prevent the background from printing on uneven surfaces and because ink builds up less rapidly inside the characters. Sometimes it is also used for embossing impressions into material such as clay.
Mirror Image Type
Reverse –reading “mirror image” characters are used in offset equipment when the RIBtype does not print directly on the object. Mirror image is also used when printing on the inside of clear packaging. Mirror image assortments and custom products are available at an extra charge.
Vertical-Rib Type
Sometimes referred to as "reverse tie knot", the ribs on the back of the vertical-rib type run at right angles (top to bottom) to the text on the face of the type. Unless vertical-rib is requested, all RIBtype is made with horizontal ribs, running in the same direction as text on the face of the type.
RIB Direction
RIBtype is furnished in standard (horizontal) rib unless specified otherwise. Standard ribs run the same direction as the characters or words appearing on the face of the type. Vertical ribs run at right angles (top to bottom) to the characters or words on the face of the type. Vertical ribs are also known as “reverse tie knots”
Rubber Choices
Natural rubber RIBtype is best for general purpose use with water-based or alcohol-based inks. Assortments are stocked in natural rubber with a standard hardness of 55-durometer. Softer 30-durometer rubber can be supplied. Natural rubber RINtype has a distinctive red face with gray ribs. Buna RIBtype is recommended for use with oil-based inks. Inks made with hydro-carbon derivative will cause natural rubber to swell. Buna is black with a standard hardness of 50-durometer. It is also available in harder 90-durometer or softer 30-durometer material. PVC is flexible plastic material that does not transfer ink as well as natural rubber but provides greater durability in some applications. It is also excellent for printing on film with reciprocating printers. Silicone RIBtype, because of its tolerance, is the material of choice for hot ink transfer printers.
Ribbed Base Sheets
RIBtype base material is attached to [printing devices to hold the type. It can be adhered to coders, print wheels, print heads and hand stamps. Standard base base sheet sizes are 7 ¼” x 17” and 14” x 18”. The ribs run in the long direction. Base material can also be ordered in custom sizes or in the form of coder rings. The standard thickness is .155” but special thicknesses are available. The back is plain unless adhesive backing is specified.
Office Sets
Each set includes a rib-base stamp mount, ink pad, tweezers and RIBtype letter/number set to allow you make your own hand stamp. Ideal for emergency use or when changeable copy is required. Sets are available in typestyles A10, A11, A12, A13 and more.
RIBtype Self-Inkers
This rib-based self-inking stamp allows users to set their own copy then change it as needed with RIBtype sets or logos. Orders should specify impression area.
RIBtype Rocker and Hand Stamps
These can be custom made to any size with rib-base cushion to hold RIBtype characters, logos or mats. Rocker stamps are recommended for large print areas.
One Year Date Code Sets
One piece logos for each day of the year make for quality impressions every time. These print much better than individual characters because they are precision moded as one piece and all characters wear evenly as they print. One-piece logos are less likely to pop out of the ribs than single characters, and there is less risk of operator set-up errors.
Complete Date Sets
These off-the-shelf assortments contain one each of the months and six consecutive years in single-piece logo form. Dates also in logo form, one each of 1 through 31.
Quality Assurance
RIBtype is made of premium quality rubber or synthetic materials according to customer requirements. Type is manufactured to a thickness of .210”, +- .003”’ the most exacting tolerances in the industry… guaranteed. This ensures uniform type thickness for the best impressions. The alignment of our type meets the same exacting tolerances. The “ribs” on RIBtype are symmetrical and perfectly matched to the ribs on RIBtype base sheets. This precision fit helps ensure that the type seats uniformly and stays in place during printing.
